School of Foreign Languages and CulturalCommunication consists of Department of Scientific and Technical Translation,Department of English, Department of Japanese, Department of Public Relations,Department of College English, Department of College German (Russian) andGeneral Education Center.
The school has more than 100 faculty members,among whom 1/3 have senior professional titles, 1/3 have doctoral degrees, and1/2 have overseas experience. Attaching importance to scientific research,School has undertaken numbers of academic research projects at municipal llevel and above, including projects of National Social Science Fund of China,Humanities & Social Sciences Project of the Ministry of Education, ShanghaiPhilosophy and Social Science Planning Project, and Shanghai Education andScientific Research Projects.
The school has a good reputation in teachingand has won a number of municipal and above teaching construction and reformprojects, including First-Class Undergraduate Program in Shanghai, KeyUndergraduate Teaching Reform Project in Shanghai , etc. .Meanwhile, teachersand students have won honors in teaching and discipline competitions at themunicipal level or above, such as the Grand Prizes in Shanghai Tryout of theSFLEP National Foreign Language Teaching Contest and National EnglishCompetition for College Students, the first prizes in China University StudentPR Plan Contest and Shanghai Tryout of “FLTRP・ETIC Cup” English Public SpeakingContest, etc.
The goal of the School is to further enhancethe development of the two major disciplines of Translation Studies andCommunication Studies, as well as the three major undergraduate programs ofEnglish, Japanese and Public Relations
